My french 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T is throwing a tantrum since it approached the 200k km mark in June and I haven't been able to track the failure down, but mandatory technical inspection here in France is coming up next summer and it won't pass for sure with the errors on the dash I guess (I can always remove the bulbs but that's not how it's done) - selling on will be an issue too if non resolved
So what are the issues? (they came in bit by bit in 1 month let's say, but are now permanent):
- BRAKE FAILURE Stop Safely on dashboard with the orange triangle
- Speed indicator does not work, no mileage is added on trip meter or clocked up in general, rest of dash is ok - no cruise control in these conditions, so thanks Waze and free mileage rollback
- ABS - Brake - DSTC light on dash, these light on permanently 5 secs after startup
- Engine management light on (which I can reset with my cheapo OBD2 checker, but engine acceleration is 'jerky' then so I avoid it) - power seems slightly off.
After some googling I cut open my ABS-unit (and redid the soldering whilst I was at it - it looked pretty ok otherwise) but to no avail - another google-search with the serial number on it 8619466 said this one was not affected by cold solders ?? It's a DSTC unit btw.
Then I pulled the CEM to the bare pcb and nothing seemed fishy over there too, difficult to see as all is coated in a brownish sealant.
With the battery disconnected for about 3 days, it worked 300kms, but alas - symptoms reappeared and they never went away.
Battery resets are now to no avail (it was replaced this summer for a non related issue)
So I left my car at the Volvo dealer whilst in Belgium last week as I don't have Vida, and here's the printout:

The old&bold technician told me track all wiring CEM-BCM and wished me good luck after requesting 78€ for the read-out...
Main issues are CEM-1A5E and CEM-1A5F , which appear SAS and BCM related.
Other alarms seem pretty normal to me, I run a custom E85 tune so I guess that pops some ECM-messages - the vacuum lines are getting krusty so I'll have to replace those (and that Pierburg valve-thingy too?).
I changed the clutch pedal sensor once when cruise control acted up when I got the car 4 years ago, but again one brush of the resistance track inside broke off so that throws a code too (ECM-9300).
I also replaced the ETM with the contactless Sacer one, which got rid of some acceleration stumbling issues 2 years ago.
And the siren fuse was pulled for internal battery reasons (UEM-0004)
Plan of action:
- check ECM power relays as xemodex recommends (even if my car is from 2001...):
https://xemodex.com/us/bcm-diagnostic-f ... -s80-xc90/
How do you check these?
- have a little clean of the SAS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc-RIK8rdzI with https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/stee ... or.662505/
What would you tackle, or think? I'm planning working on it tomorrow. I secretly hope it's just a silly speed sensor issue as there is also the ECM-510F fault which is related to this, but the resistances in the speed sensors seem to correspond to around 6K ohm. Is there a sensor on the (manual) gearbox too?
I'll keep this updated so this can help someone out (that's why forums are for) - thanks for any advice on this pesty fault
