Hello all,
Last night I was driving on the highway and realized I was going slower than the speed limit so I pressed on the gas, the RPMs and speedometer revved like normal except, I was not increasing my speed. Quickly realized that the car was not receptive to the pedal so I pulled over. I put the car in park, cycled through all of the gears and back to Drive and it still would not go. I shifted back up to park and heard a repetitive clicking noise. I tried cycling through again and nothing. I shut it off, started it right back up and still the car would not drive forward or in reverse and still the only noise I heard was when putting the car back into park.
I checked the transmission fluid and it was good. Only other symptom I noticed was while checking the transmission dip stick (fluid was bright red and at the appropriate level) I was leaned on it and the car began rolling backwards. No other symptoms that I have seen or heard while driving. It just seemed to have lost ability to drive without any warning, dash lights, noises, etc.
Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

My neighbor had a Ford Taurus and told me the transmission went out. I went over and took a look. He fired it up and put it in drive. The CV shift was turning, the wheel was not. I quickly moved to the side of the car in case it decided to "catch".

You should be able to start and keep moving at very slow speed, since Gen2 Haldex partially locks its clutch at start, that will allow rear wheels to move the vehicle. If that does not happen, either AWD is broken, which is common, or the problem is in transmission. Like forward or direct clutches burnt or not engaging for electrical or hydraulic problems with the transmission.

The Haldex system in it has been inoperable for quite some time. The car was gifted to me by my in-laws like that and I moved south where I don't need AWD. It's been my daily for the last two years without issue until the other night.
The car does not move whatsoever in any gear. I posted in a reddit forum as well and some feedback was to check the drive shaft or anything related to the CV Axels. I am hoping for that as that would be an easy fix for me. Also, I have been told to check the U-Joints but I have never done any DIY repairs on those. Just hoping its not a serious transmission issue as I really like the car and it keeps me from having to purchase something different.

Just replaced the driver side axle. At first when the tires were off the ground, only the driver side tire would spin when pressing the pedal. Lowered the car thinking it was fixed but the car still will not move and makes a terrible grinding sound when going back into park. Any ideas to what that could be?
I am curious (hopeful might be a better word) that maybe its the passenger side axle even though I just replaced that a few months ago. I don't believe it is but I'm just praying for an easy fix at this point.
