This car is for sale, $1200, or $1000 if you have an account here registered before today. I need to pay for my son's middle school trip to Washington DC in the spring.

Yesterday she passed emissions. My heart jumped, because the CE light came on while I was in line. I had a couple minutes to decide to clear it or not, and the omnipresent, ethereal soul of MVS whispered NO to me as I pondered it... that doing so would trip a flag in the Air Care Colorado testing equipment and fail her.

I listened to the heavens, and the grade was Pass despite the P0455. I cleared it and it did not reappear on the drive home, but that's no reassurance because it's typically far short of the requirements to fire the light again.

I've put about 300 miles on her and not once has the CE light illuminated. But 30 feet from the testing bay? Yea time for a lightshow.

To interested buyers: I'll update this thread with details about this V70: condition, driving impressions, etc. SHE'S FAR FROM PERFECT, in case you want a sneak preview. I put that in all caps for a reason.

Back in 2012 cousin let me borrow his stick welder for use on the 98 S70 T5. First time using without any guidance or supervision. Pretty ugly but fixed it.

To me, not at all. You are documenting the deficiencies, and I would be very concerned if the PO did not know about them. The interior does not look all that bad and a good clean should have it pretty nice. Door cards are a challenge.

I watched an interesting Wheeler Dealers recently where an upholsterer in the UK was repairing a similar issue on a car. He used a small drill bit to drill through the backing card from the back and then injecting small amounts of glue with a syringe and needle through the holes. He then glued the vinyl back little by little to get it back to looking good.

I would thing gentle warming of the vinyl with a hair dry may help it to stretch back to shape as well. Slow and painful but possible. I had considered trying that a few years ago but my test panel got junked in the house move.

If the car runs and drives, then that is a huge step forward. A Stage 0 will be a benefit over time. Sure, some of the dings may not buff out, but it can be made a little less obvious. Maybe a rear door may turn up in the right color. The rear wheel arch and the 'plod' in the doors might be a little more challenging.

It depends in the end of the day if you want a functional daily, or a pristine show car.

Well, well. I was thinking how to repair that hole when injecting glue through the front leather .

The upholsterer used a small one handed drill and bit so he could control the speed of the drill so it did not break through the backing board and puncture the vinyl. He had the drill bit in what looked like a knurled narrow chuck and a tiny bit. I guess the reason for the small bit (just larger than the syringe needle) was so when glued down the vinyl did mot have a bunch of dimples where the holes were if the glue sucked them in. Getting the balance of warming the vinyl enough to stretch but not over stretch and become wrinkled is the challenge.

One piece of advice is, if you plan to use and clamps, use some small flat pieces of wood or cardboard between the vinyl and the clamp so as not to get a point load and leave an impression live the upholsterer did on my car panel.

Honestly, it's worth more than that. Running, passed state inspection, good tires...yeah worth more. You'll sell it ASAP.

I use mine as an airport car now. I drive it 20 miles to sit for 5-6 days, and drive it home. Instead of being garaged while at home, it now sits outside 24/7. This will only hasten its demise.

I was doing the math on these cars. With inflation, these were roughly $60k-$65k vehicles in todays dollars. For me, this car (and web site, that I rarely come on anymore) were a huge part of my 20's and 30's.

I'm @ 28 years and hope to get vintage plates @ 30. Will evaluate where I go from there.

I had the same run with Elizabeth. Drive to ALB, sits for 5 days, come home. Round trip 20 miles.

Now, I don’t even do that, I walk 1 mile to train or one of my crew comes and delivers/ retrieves me

Hi Tom, it is. I have a guy coming over tomorrow. Naturally, that doesn't mean much.

To add to this log: she started right up this morning at -6F after being on the street for 5 days. I drove her for 45 minutes. The heat is weak. It's either brutal cold (unlikely), a bad t-stat (unlikely) or a clogged heater core (more likely).

Temp needle rises quickly to a tick under exactly midway.

The heat thing is probably a damper motor issue, based on the test drive today and input from test drivers Noah and Dan, who discovered that the center vents were cold but outer vents were warm.

Sold for $1100.
