2003 s40 door not closing

I just recently bought a 2003 s40 and the door will not latch! This is causing the battery to die every night which requires a jump start. Does anyone know of a fix for this issue?

All door have a two stage latching function. The first grabs the door and leaves a gap then the second is when the door is fully engaged and shut tight. Are you says you've been driving it with the door semi-closed?

Short answer yes. But I have a second vehicle im using now. Do you think this fix is possible via my home mechanic skills or will I need a new lock system?
