LHF axle inner boot- How much grease? Topic is solved

I have got the new inner boot back on the axle I got from the junkyard. I have filled the axle inner 'cup' with the supplied GKN grease. I always think these seem to be way to little on the inner cup/boot? Does anyone recommend adding more or trust GKN to have supplied enough grease for the job. The GKN grease packs seem to be the same size for the inner and out boots, so for the inner boot is just does not look like a lot.

Thoughts/recommendations?

I have more grease packs so I can easily add more.

I received this boot kit from FCP a couple of days ago and the inner boot does had two bags of grease as pictured.

I do ~190 g for the P80 inner.

Thanks guys. That makes way more sense, but the inner boot kit I got had only one grease pack in it. I bought a bunch more so will add a 2nd.

The weird thing is if you look at the pictures for the GKN kits for inner boots, they show for one 80gm grease pack for the inner boot and 2 for the outer?

The Volvo boots they offer show 1 for one inner and 2 for the other inner?

The GKN kit for the whole axle has 2 individual kits in it. The outer has 2 x 80gm and the inner 1 x 80gm?

The inner kit above in the link is the one I have.

I read NL's link, and he writes 1 for the inner and 190gms which is more than the 2 x 80gm packs?

This is the inner boot listed for my car on a Volvo parts website. It only shows one grease pack (a FoMoCo part), but no indication as to how much grease is in the pack. Based on the scale, I would suggest it is no more than 80-100gms.

My apologies. Having not done a boot change for years and not yet pulled the axle, I assumed the larger boot is the inner. It is one pack for the inner smaller boot and two for the outer. Just confirmed the parts received with FCP's web fitment. Looking at the grease packs all 3 are the same size at 80g each. Sorry about the confusion!

Not a problem. I have contacted Volvo for clarification, as they advertise one inner boot with 2 packs. Seems like one heck of a large cup and boot for only one pack. The link that was attached further up alluded to 190gms on the inner and 80-120 on the outer. As those on here may have realised by now, I hate to work with 'maybe's'.

I'll try to get an absolute and post it up.

The more I think on this, I am beginning to think that maybe Northernlights got things reversed. Perhaps he got the inner and outer CV boots grease quantities reversed? As all the outer kits come with 2 x grease packs ( approx. 80-90 gms each) it makes more sense the outer boot should have maybe 160-190 gms and maybe the inners which mostly come with 1 x 80-90gm grease pack should be the 80-120gm quantity?

I'll hopefully find out from Volvo and will update.

Well my friend at Volvo is a bust. He says it is whatever is in the kit. Problem is they don't have the kit in stock and I will have to order one just to find out when I already have 2 GKN inner kits.

What is more annoying is the Volvo OE kit # 31256221 which I believe is correct for my car shows 2 grease packs on IPD and FCP websites pictures, but only one on Volvo on-line sites I have checked. So no help there.

Anyone fitted an OE inner boot recently and can recall how much grease was supplied?

Naturally I am reluctant to buy any more kits, especially just to identify something that should be available in terms of information from Volvo.

Wow, just found this on Amazon. I know you guys sometimes can't see these Canadian links, but they show what they say is a Volvo kit and it has 2 x grease packs. They packs actually show the quantities in each. One is 85 gms and the other 65 gms. So a total of 150 gms.
