Re: MVS Volvo Repair Help in your area - hands on help from a fellow MVS'er

Lydia in CT emailed me and needs help:
I love this site. But I am an elderly lady with a wonderful 2000 Volvo s70 with 219K miles and I want to keep it forever but cannot do the work myself. (dye test) Apparently there are some gasket leaks. Are there any repair guys near my zip (06488) in Southbury CT who can do this without trying to scam me?
Thank you very much.

Lydia is up and running well!
We got her straightened out with a cam seal RR, replaced oily timing belt and a couple of other sundry items

Brought this V70 to my kid who moved to Berkeley. The RMS seemed fixed and now leaks more. Replace is next step. Space and engine hoist are needed.

Anyone know a good indie shop in the tri-state NY area that can replace a head gasket at a reasonable cost? My treasured '06 S80 just received new shocks, and all new rotors and calipers. Then, 200 miles later - just as she passed 100K miles - a CEL diagnosis uncovered a blown head gasket. My local garage doesn't have the specialized tools required, nor does the local Volvo dealer (they told me they would 'manage' the repair but would have to farm out the work...)

Munch on Long Island near me, eshowell can hook you up with an Indy in Long Valley, and in Kent CT there is a good Volvo Indy too

It’s still a 15 hour , 2k labor job plus machine shop in NY

I have the tools here if you want to tackle it yourself

I'll check them out. Parts will probably add close to $1K (head studs, seals, etc.) - and then possibly machining the head if needed. Somewhere along the way I might cross over the value of the car, so it might be best to find a new owner who could do the work himself...
Thanks for the info!

$2000 into an S80 that will get you another 5 years running is better than a $2000 clunker car
