Wagon Repainting - How much disassembly, what parts needed and jobs to tackle while that's being done?

Post by RedBrickCollector »

I'm planning to repaint the car and I'd like some input on what things are likely to need replacement once they come off the car, along with what other jobs can be done while it's apart. I also would like to know how the two main rails along the A-pillar and roof are supposed to be done. The one installed right now has been installed (badly) with adhesive/sealant and has a significant gap going on

My best guess for parts that will need replacing are the following:
9178160 Support rail, Trim moulding Windscreen upper
9190113 Trim moulding, Glass Windscreen upper
9133716 Spacer
9483520 Rear windscreen lower moulding
1024677 Rear windscreen upper moulding

Parts I have in the "Might as well depending on price" category would be:
9203035 Weatherstrip, right rear
9203034 Weatherstrip, left rear
9485112 Weatherstrip, left front
9485113 Weatherstrip, right front

One big question I've got is on the rear side windows. I've seen the videos but still don't understand fully if it can be safely removed. From what I understood the rubber and the glass are one assembly that slides in but that whoe assembly is glued so it would need the adhesive cut?

I've also seen that for the sides of the windshield there's a trim piece that people replace with the newer V70 version, the one that catches water and keeps it from spilling onto the doors, but I can't seem to find what that part is called or what part number.

I'm concerned about the other seals but also figure that they will be able to be removed intact if careful.

Parts take several weeks to get here, so that along with shipping means I would definitely like to get everthing in one go rather than needed to pause it in the shop to wait for parts. Probably best would be to have all the glass and related disassembly done to see what breaks, but I'd rather have the part numbers and stores on standby (and have my wallet prepared accordingly before I put it in the shop)
