Or, both, with Key in KPIII (cranking position)

12v to the white post in the fuse, 12v to the green connector, 12v to the starter posts.

The female spade connector on the signal wire going to the solenoid is notorious for feeling like it's connected but not having a good enough grip to supply enough power to energize the starter. Give it a gentle squeeze with some needle nose pliers, and see if it behaves better.
None of the stuff you took off would keep it from cranking.

You should replace the capacitors in the old one and keep it as a spare.
I’d definitely give it a shot. Is there a how-to somewhere? If not, might be worth it to crack it open and try to figure it out.
There is a write up on this here, I’ll try find it.

Foggy and I will tell you to go get one from FCP, already.

I do have the capacitors, so if you don't want to do it yourself, just shoot me a PM.

Today I discovered used tires online. I will likely never buy new tires again. I got a set of 4 practically new yokohamas for $60/Tire and $120 to mount and balance them.

www.utires.com for anyone interested.

How used? Any guarantees they weren't slipped belts or out of round and sent back?

Replaced the entire set of bulbs in Blue Steel’s brake lights and rear turn signals after one went bad and found the old ones seriously faded.
Faded turn signal bulb and a new one.

Score! I've gotten some good deals on used tires. I'd much rather buy used name brand tires than cheap junk new tires. I've had bad luck with the off brand tires... they're just bad. Noisy, no traction, not much life, etc.
As long as they're not too old, it's the way to go.

Those bulbs have been in place for a long time! Looks like the ones I pulled and replaced at the front of my son's 06 XC70 last year when I replaced all the front bulbs. Our Toyota bulbs were similar too!

Reminds me I have to take a run to the junkyard again tomorrow. That XC70 has a rear tail light that is throwing a warning randomly. Can't identify which one, but last time this happened I found the bulb holder on one of the bulbs had melted. I think I will see if there is a good set of V/XC70 rear light bulb holder that are not melted.

Wasted time finally filling the LHF axle with the correct amount of grease, and then found what I thought was a dirty reluctor/tone ring is actually damaged in about 3 place with slightly deformed/flattened teeth. I think they will be ok after filing them straight again, but looking into possibly replacing the ring. It can go on the back burner for now!

Neil.

I have no idea. They advertise "high quality" and they provide information on tread depth. They state only repaired tread patches are allowed. No sidewall repairs. They reject tires that have excessive wear. There's mention of 2 pressure tests. It seems pretty thorough but all I can tell you is I'm very happy with my purchase. I filtered my search list by "set of 4" and "high tread". One of my tires has a patch and I'm ok with that.

Here are some screenshots of their disclaimer
