That might be the problem since Vol-FCR works only on serial (db9) cable and laptop or desktop with serial port.

There are members on volvospeed.com who managed to make it work with usb cable.

You can emulate the serial port i think, but i dont know anything about those cables so is there anything that i need to look for?

It's also designed to work with old WinXP.
Owners who managed to make it work with usb cable...also have succeeded to make it work with Win7 & Win10.

Don't know anything beyond this since i'm keeping old desktop with serial port and WinXP in the garage for this purpose.

you can emulate com port i think but should i look for a specific cable? I have no idea on how they work.

As far as i know...VAG COM KKL is what you need.
Mine is serial,i got it along with software and it says Vol-FCR on it.

I think that since my car is fwd the speed sensors should be only in the front wheels, right?

Speedometer takes the signal from front abs sensors but converted through abs/tracs module...in your case...since a car is manual...just from abs module.

You also have abs sensors on both rear wheels but they...as far as i know...are not used for speedometer.

On my 2000 V70 the signal for speed is taken from the LHF wheel sensor.
