98 S70 T5 -- purge valve hose size

I replaced the purge valve to get rid of a P0447 and doing it didn't help but I should have also replaced the smaller bottom hose that points downward and attaches to (apparently) a hose that is definitely a harder plastic material. (It leads down the side of the fan).

** What size of hose should I get to replace this small piece (maybe 4-5 " long) -- what diameter should I ask for?
** The larger hose to the left seems to be fine.
** If replacing the hose doesn't get rid of the error, what is (generally) the next move?

The car is driving ok -- no bad starts etc but did notice a slight reduction in mpg and overall power it seems. (typical)?

Which hose do you mean? Is it in this picture?

This is taken from a diagram for an B5234T3 engine (2.3L, 176 kW; 236 hp, 240 ps).

Number 7. Mine doesn't couple to another part it just attaches to that one long tube. My engine is 2.3L
It's just a short piece of flexible tubing that attaches to the non-flexible one. need to know diameter to buy because it was pretty fraid.
just want to hit the autozone for it?

couldn't find the diameter for that, maybe someone on here can measure it on their car.
But for $3 I'd just order the OEM part (3531116)

Just search for some vacuum elbows which would fit to your vacuum line at any autoparts store.
Those elbows are universal parts for a lots of car brands and are used for many applications like vacuum solenoids,sas system,evap system,pcv system,fpr...etc.

I have had good results with silicone tubing to replace some of the old rubber elbows and nylon hard lines in the purge/evap system.

Now I see a diagram where what I thought was the purge valve is actually called the solenoid valve (which is the one I replaced). I'm getting a P0447 error and new "solenoid" valve didn't help. Am I reading this diagram right? Does the purge valve also fail? There's also a check valve I see that follows the solenoid valve. -- thanks

edit -- heck with it, it sounds like the P0447 doesn't affect performance. will just blow it off for now,
