Intermittent no crank fault (key fob/immobiliser)? XC70 2008

Post by Hannibal38 »

Hi all: when I insert my smart key into the slot it and press start I often here a relay click but nothing else happens and the car won’t start. I have to take the key out and re-insert it (sometimes several times) before the car starts up and everything works fine. I suspect a faulty relay but don’t am guessing and don’t know where to look. Any ideas please?

You are in the wrong forum section here. Maybe one of the moderators can move it to the correct P3 XC70 section where you may get more help.

I do recall driving an 08 XC70 with that so called 'smart' key. Does the key have a battery?

I'm sorry, I have no idea how that works or if it is similar to the P2 ignitions with an antenna ring which reads the key before allowing the car to identify and start the car. Does the P3 have the dash notification read outs for the error messages?

Neil.
