2002 v70 Replacing ‘Trip meter switch’ on DIM

Post by Derek123 »

It’s been a while guys. You’ve helped me hugely before with my 960 and my last v70.
My father has owned his 2002/2003 v70 since new (72000 miles).
Recently the dash board has developed a fault…
It intermittently cuts out, goes completely dead or freezes. Last week I drove 50 miles to a breakers who said they had some secondhand ones. When I got there we tried 2 and they were both dead, so I put the old one back in and worked fine until the following day.
It is mainly intermittent and if it does freeze or blackout completely I can normally get it back on by pressing the ‘trip’ button…
It seems directly connected to the button.
My question to you is can I take the back off to check/replace the trip button or can I somehow get some contact cleaner in there?
If not can anyone recommend an auto electrician in England to get this fixed?

Thanks in anticipation,
Derek

BTW I had to scrap my lovely 2000 v70 with no problems because of the ULEZ laws in London.

Hi Derek,

It sounds like your dash needs a proper rebuild, the symptoms you are describing are typical. I don't know who does this kind of service in the UK, but there a companies over here that would do it.
One of them is this one:

https://europeanelectric.net/products

Apparently we have members who used them and they were satisfied. Shipping would be a bit of an issue, but if you can't find anyone...?

Good luck,

Dirk

P.S. Too bad about your 2000 V70, what a shame.

If you want, I can take a look (electrical engineer here).
Maybe reflowing the solder joints will fix the problem.
I repaired my instrument cluster which also had problems (2003 XC90).
And germany aint that far from the UK
Just because you're trash, doesn't mean you can't do great things.

Thanks Dirk. I’ll see if anyone can recommend one here in England first

I don't know if this would work for you with the brexit, but there is a compagnie in Germany ecu.de, they fixed a bad throttle on my V70 2000 , price were really reasonable. They do rebuild instrument cluster. https://ecu.eu

edit: https://ecu.eu/orderrequest-8.htm#UK-N ... and-Brexit Too bad that won't work with customs :(

Thanks for that. I’ll call them tomorrow.

I was also hoping to hear from someone who has taken one apart and get their thoughts on the trip button.

Thanks again Antoine240bk - I did use [url]https://www.essexrecons.com/? and it was repaired very quickly. I posted to them on Monday and received it back on Friday. I highly recommend Essex Recons and they give a lifetime guarantee on their fix.
