1998 V70 T5 oil leak and oil pressure light flashs when turning left only.

Post by Grover365 »

Hello,

This is my first post so be gentle.

When I turn the wheel past '11 o'clock' to the left (never right), the oil pressure light will flash and hold if the wheel holds position. The light mostly only happens when moving above 20 km/h.
I quickly checked the engine oil level and topped it up. I also checked the transmission fluid too. After i filled the oil up, I've noticed a heavy oil leak when the car is warmed up.
I'm going to buy a car jack and stands so I can get under for a look.
Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers.

Did the light stay off after topping up the oil?

The light reflects low oil pressure which is really bad for the engine , so you don’t want to see that light on under load, ever.

I know this is gonna sound dumb,
but is there any chance it’s the
low coolant light?

It's definitely the low oil pressure light.

It seemed to have lessened the flashing but not stopped. Most of the time when I'm driving it's off. When I turn left it flashes erratically.

The oil leak seems to be coming from near the turbo. The previous owner replaced a lot of tubes, so I'm hoping a connection has just come loose.

There are two oil connections at the turbo, a banjo bolt with two copper crush washers, and a drain tube thst. Lots to a flange on the turbo bottom.

Get that sorted as low oil pressure will ruin your engine. Do you hear valve tapping noises when the light flashes?

The leak was coming from the rear camshaft seal. The old one was loose and fell out when I took the cover off. I replaced it and the leak has stopped but light remains. A mechanic suggested it could be the power steering due to the turning symptom.
