P0301 intermittent misfire and brittle bullets plugs

Post by thefisch »

Started getting the occasional misfire and CEL with code P0301 the other month. It wasn't happening too often - maybe every 100-200 miles - until recently. I was thinking it was time for new plugs or a coil swap, but then an inspection revealing that the silicone that holds in the bullet terminals in the ignition coil plug for cylinder 1 were completely disintegrated. Without the silicone to hold the terminals in the plugs, I expect they are getting loose leading to intermittent electrical connection.

I realize the long term solution is changing out the wiring harness but that does not appear available for my 98 S90. Any recommendations for repair? Splice in a pigtail?

There is a connector with a short 6-8 inch wire attached to it. Do a e-bay motor search (ignition coil 960 volvo wire repair) and it will come up
You will have to cut the bad section and splice the new connector on.
fun to drive
