2004 XC70 Immobilizer See Manual
Ok, the XC70 we have runs great but just yesterday the "Immobilizer, see manual" message came up on the dash as I tried to start and it wouldn't. I have a complex scanner and put it in..... nothing showed up (no codes). I let the car sit a few hours, still no start. I tried the unlock/lock 5-6 times with the remote....still no start..... is it the batteries in the remote that are bad? I get the lights to come on, radio etc etc... battery is still strong just no start.... what to do?

Not a common issue, but there were a few antenna ring failures. Easy to replace with a used unit. Or maybe the chip inside the key got damaged.

Hello
If I get a used antenna ring, will it need to be programmed? I was thinking it may be the battery in the keyfob? But it locks and unlocks the doors with no problem. The other funny thing is that when I put on my Autel Maxisys Pro and read codes, there were none. Only a few codes pertaining to check engine light which I knew about.

Just a note: The key has to be in fully unfolded position in order for the engine to start and run. If your key has the failure where key blade doesn't snap out and lock this can lead to you turning the key on and cranking it over with the key folded to some degree and the chip can't be read by the antenna ring.
