Any advice on what to do with the crumbling electrical installation? The wires themselves are pretty hard, they almost feel like they might snap.
.
These types of tapes have worked well in the last couple of years. One is high temp which is not as pliable. I would use the high temp wrap to replace the looms for the spark plugs while the softer has worked in several Volvo headlights. If the plastic cover crumbles it's held together well by the tape yet still flexible.

For thick 120V extension cords just use duct tape and then wrap the softer tape around it. Keeps the adhesive residue from the duct tape from picking up debris and getting other things sticky.

You can see the depressions as it is obviously feeling blue….

Just back from visiting family in the highlands and the car ran like a dream, overtaking slower traffic on the A82 over Ranch Moor and through Glencoe was effortless.

It will be one year on 23rd Feb since I purchased the V70 and I reset the OBC before leaving Slough to drive home. I've now done 3420 miles and the OBC says my average fuel consumption for the last year is 30.2mpg. The last time I did a tank fill to the brim calculation was during a VOS meet to Glencoe in October, 255 miles travelled and 6.715 gallons (30.53 litres) of Shell V-Power and I averaged 37.97mpg.

The next time I fill up I think I'll reset the OBC and do another brim calculation to find out how much the OBC is out..

I’ve not seen those plastic strut tower covers before. I wonder if this is a euro-market only thing? Anyone know the answer?

Now imagine what the block feels like. No seriously, it likely has some warpage as well.

As for myself I have been away on a trip without the car but after coming back, so far it drives fine, except without VVT. I havent attempted to remove the electrical installation for a fix-up, but might do it in a few days.
I am worried that when the electrical installation shorted, the VVT solenoid OR hub made these grinding sounds and am wondering if it needs to be replaced. Additionally remember I smelt burnt electronics around the ECM/TCM area and am wondering if something did happen.
However I DO have to replace the timing belt and tensioner. It seems due to my frequent removal of the belt(at least 10 times) it's not looking too good.

Installed some nice shiny "Jewel" taillights that my friend scot850 harvested from the wrecking yard. I've always wanted a set of these!
