Good morning!
In my 94 T5 the driver's seat wont come up to a woman-friendly seat height because the shock (or how would that shock shaped cartridge actually be called) that is supposed to push the seat up seems to be shot. I can move it upward for my wife manually, but this is not very practical.
I have a few spare seats, but could't get the shock unit off.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

On our 00 S70 Base SE the passenger seat is manual while the driver's side is electric. Ours won't pop up either. None of the Volvo websites show a manual seat. Are you able find a pictorial diagram of it or part number? This is all assuming you are referring to a manual seat?

Yes this is only on manual P80 seats. Haven't had one of those in many years but do know of them. Sorry, no idea on if/how to remove the shock unit.
This Volvo parts drawing for a manual seat base shows the shock (NLA naturally now!). It shows it is held in place at the top by a locking wire.
At the bottom it looks like it disconnects by tilting to one side to release it.

yes, it's dor the manual seat.
I removed that pin but couldn't get it off. Now, after seeing the diagram, I will try again. It should indeed just slide out of the lower bracket.
And I would assume the pressure of the shock is not high enough to cause any harm during disassembly (like, let's say, a front strut assembly). Right?

If it is compressed, can you use tying metal wire to hold it compressed like when you get new shock absorbers?
