Others may offer them, like do88, but I bought these:

You just have to get the console stuff out of the way, the shifter itself stays together.
Another thought would be to change the transmission juice, since you seem to be ... somewhat vigorous with the car.

So, sounds like order of operations is:
- Bleed slave (probably the easiest thing on the list to do)
- Bushings in the shifter (second easiest cause the center console has been removed before)
- Bushings by the trans that come off a skateboard… I suppose (sounds like a hack job, which is exactly how my AC works)
- Trans juice? (You’re talking about the gear oil? Again, stupid questions from a stupid individual).
This is a good list of things to do. And if any one of them improves the smoothness of the shifting I’ll be a happy camper!

That's a great list to start. Just don't get your hopes up with the trans oil change. It's a good idea to change it at that mileage, especially if it has never been done, but it will do nothing for your shifting issues. If you are looking for a brand recommendation, Redline MTL is the stuff to use.

I just finished changing the trans juice, and as expected my shifting issues didn’t get better. However, a few days ago (before I changed my gear oil) I also realized that I don’t have fourth during cold. I can shift to 1st 3rd and 5th just fine, maybe even better after the drain and fill, but 2nd 4th and reverse are all nothingness. No grinding unless I really bear down on the shifter, but nothing engages either.
AKA - every gear on the “bottom” is borked until the car is “warmed up,” which takes an awful long time and even still the car doesn’t like doing it.
Wanted to ask if we’ve gone from DEFCON 3 to DEFCON 2 or 1 in terms of critical transmission issues.
I did get the skateboard bearings from a cool little shop. Will be tearing apart the air box and tackling that next. But my concern is growing, to say the least.
Here’s hoping it’s a ripped bushing… and not a syncro… but with my luck, it’s a syncro…

I’ll be seeing billy Joel at Madison square in May… if the Volvo is still having issues by then, I will most certainly be in touch… though, that offer concerns me that you think it’s a major “I’ve cooked the transmission” issue…
How easy was it to yank out? Asking in case I need to do the same…

And so the fun begins… found a form post that said to try shifting with the engine off. I could get it into 2nd and 4th with the clutch, and struggled to without it, but couldn’t get reverse regardless. That leans towards a syncro issue, at least for 2nd and 4th
To solution is to double clutch. And if that ends up working then I can at least survive the season… maybe…

Good point, but we’re probably staying the night in the city and camping out upstate the next day. Well organize those logistics later. Are you certain it’ll work in my car? No year differences?
