Hello there,
Anyone have an idea how to do this right? 1998 v70 non turbo
The gas door does not have an 1/8 inch hole that would be needed for this installation as far as i can tell.
You are supposed to put this little push in thing through the end of the tether then push it into the hole.
So for now i just tied it to the spring on the door with some paracord which is very strong cord made for use with parachutes.
I would rather find out the best way to do this though.
Thanks.

Connect Gas Cap Tether To Gas Hatch Door
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

There should be a hook on the upper part of the hinge on the fuel cover. If you look at this link to IPD for a replacement hinge assembly, in the picture lower left you see the extension that has a hook to loop the tie to. I have found that aftermarket parts sometimes don't include this.

I did try attaching it on my friends car to one of the 2 latch motor screws but she just found it got in the way.

Unfortunately i could not figure out where the hook is in the link. I dont think mine has a hook though i didnt see any.
My tether just has a large loop at the end with no opening to hook around the gas door spring like in the photo the next member post shows.
What is puzzling is why dont the instructions come with the dang gas cap.
I you look at the photo in the reply just after yours you will see a tether that looks exactly like mine except for the very end. His appears to be a hook or something but mine is just a big "O" that is supposed to be attached to the door with little push in things that stay in when you push them in.
If you look again at that picture, you can see the metal spring, and that is what i tied mine too for the time being. The upper end just like in the photo except with heavy cord.
Yes it makes the door a little harder to close the tether has to fold up inside the compartment or something to get the door closed.
Thanks.

Hi, and thanks for the photo.
Mine looks just like that exceot for the very end. Yours looks like a hook or something at the end mine has is just a big circle about 1/2 inch in diameter at the end with no opening in the circle, although i could cut it if needed.

Hi All,
I have a 2005 S60 2.5T AWD. I was getting pissed at having no tether so I bought a new one. Problem is I sent to install it and find that the hook that the round hole is supposed to be mounted to is missing. The outer steel door that is painted has the plastic inner part mounted to it via the bent over tabs. If I bought this replacement door, am I able to bend the tabs to install the new part, and not risk breaking them off when I bend them back? Just not clear it this is possible. Anyone done this? I guess I could look at the spring teher approach from top picture, just prefer to fix it with the right part.
Thanks,
- Tim

I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing that that
little hook in the top center of the door is for
hanging the cap while you’re fueling up.
That’s how I use it on my ‘98.
If you scroll up a few posts to my pic, you’ll see
the tether is attached to the hinge spring clip,
where it can’t fall off.

The 850's don't have that tether as I recall, but I think the later hinge would fit that has the tether mount.
This is a picture of the PPS part which I am only using as it has a better picture than the Volvo part on FCP website:

If you look at the top LHS you can see a hoop part with a pin. That is where the tether fits to.
