Windshield rubber falling apart?

Post by 454cid »

I went to look at a 2007 XC70 (and an 09 P3) and I noticed the rubber around the windshield is disintegration. Is it available? What's it's function? It is easily replaced, or does the window have to come out?

.
May be the part you are referring to. If not try another Volvo parts website to see if you can find it.

This is what I'm seeing. The corner pieces at the bottom seem to be available. The a-pillar pieces are a mystery to me. I find the wider (red painted) pieces, which are very expensive, but the rubber over the glass is what's rotting and it doesn't look to be a part of what I'm finding online.

Is this you're looking for? FCP has a complet kit https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... mk#reviews
Skandix in Germany does the windshield pillar trims, unfortunately the rubber trim is bonded to the metal part, the flat part can be painted too.

Yes, I did find that. It was what I was referring to when I mentioned the wider pieces that were very expensive. It wasn't obvious to me that the rotted rubber was part of it. Is this the normal (or only) fix, or is this not a common occurrence? I wonder if just trimming away the rotten rubber would be okay.

My P2 windshield jamb rubber is rotted. It seems to be common. The Skandix piece is luckily black like my car, but I recall the shipping is pretty painful.

That little banana piece at the bottom corner is available from the usual suspects.

I don’t know WHY the rubber blade isn’t a slide-in replaceable part.

None of this is a seal, BTW, it’s water management at speed from the windshield, and aero / noise related.

My side rubber strips are crumbling like this. My windshield was replaced by a good shop about 8 years ago and that edge still looks good. Perhaps replace the windshield and get new edge rubber?

I have two P2s where I trimmed the crumbling rubber on left and right with a razor blade. Replaced both bottom left/right corner pieces with new parts from FCPEuro.

If I get this car, I think I'll do the same.

Thanks everyone.
