1AAuto provided the removal video so I didn't document that. I used a butter knife and two long flat pieces of metal similar to spark plug feeler gauges to separate the switch cover and switch buttons assembly.
It's basically like a keyboard with a membrane separating the buttons and circuit board contacts. Used a pencil eraser to clean the membrane contacts and the board then gently wiping any residue from the contact surfaces of both. I also removed the main board to check for any signs of overheating and bad solder joints. Cleaned the ribbon harness contacts also. Just pull the brown side tabs up to release the ribbon.
I would clean the eraser frequently on a piece of cloth so it does not smear the black residue being removed. Used soap and water on the cover plate and switch button assembly making sure to dry it well. Fine grit sand paper was used to clean the spade contacts then alcohol cleaned with Q-Tips. Being the contacts are now clean and have some friction I lubricated the grey plug and flat pins so it can be separated easier.
When I reinstalled it the switch didn't function and I had a real difficult time with the grey plug so use some silicone / dielectric grease mentioned above. When I took it apart again I found the ribbon harness was loose due to not pushing the side tabs down fully. Went back in and all the buttons are functioning so far.

You can potentially remove the switch if the Torx holding the switch is loose for some reason or else you have to remove the cover as I did. Try pulling it initially decided against it
