Re: Windshield rubber falling apart?

My 2004 V70 2.5T started to deteriorate from the top. I replaced the lower elbow pieces a couple of years ago. My son's S60 is in terrible shape. I found that taping off both the windshield side and painted surface adjacent to the rubber strip and painting in the cracks and covering the black rubber piece's affected area with black liquid tape does a good job of preserving the rubber and it doesn't look bad either as when it dries it's sort of mat like the original piece. Just some info I thought I would share.

I'll have to look this up!

EDIT - I have learned a new thing, thanks!
So, this worked for you on cracks, but not necessarily where there are chunks missing? It seems like you'd have to make a form underneath and fill it with the goop and try to level it smooth.

Did you notice any wind noise on the highway?

Looked at the car again today, and much of the rubber is just gone. I now have a couple of greater concerns that may be related to each other. Firstly, I noticed the oil was greatly overfilled....by quarts/liters. Also some smoke coming from the dipstick tube, I wonder if that could be caused by the overfilled condition? There also seemed to be a very slight movement of air out the oil fill hole when I had the cap off.

I haven’t. Have not really looked to see if I get additional rain on side windows either.
