UK 2009 V50 key remotes not working

Post by gaarb »

Hi all,

Have been lurking in the background for a while reading up on similar issues, but decided it's time to request some help please.

I have a 2009 V50 where both keys will no longer open the car remotely. Both keys still start the car fine. I also understand the difference bewteen remote opening and the immobiliser etc. One key stopped working after a battery change and the other stopped working several months later. I've used both VIDA and VDASH and see no obvious faults with the car itself. I tried changing the receiver in the head liner with a second hand spare, but there was no change. I have a cheap RF scanner that shows both keys a transmitting on 434Mhz, so it suggests they might have lost sync some how? Or are no longer transmitting the expected code.

I've read a comment from yagger on another thread that stated.

"Actually, this is common issue for 2008-2009 MY P1 cars. First generation of remote controls for this MY cars have a internal bug. In some years of using they are lost synchronization. For today I don't know solution for this case except programming new key."

I have also read another forum some owners being able to recover the remote after a software reload at a Volvo dealers. They had the same problem after trying a new key so opted for a software reload which fixed it.

Volvo UK want £280 for a new key, so I am contemplating buying a new genuine remote from an online retailer and then taking it to Volvo to get it programmed to try a save a bit of cash. So I would like to know if anyone else has been able to get their old remotes working again? Or is a new key the only answer?

Went to a local auto locksmith who happened to be an ex Volvo tech. He confirmed both keys were dead for remote locking. He was able to program a new key using his Volvo subscription etc.
