A girl I was right fond of bought the tickets as an early birthday present; my Mom drove us, in a blinding snowstorm, because Mom.

(...actually...Yesterday, please forgive me, couldn't be helped.)
Couldn't hear a stinkin note. Put me off live music for decades.
Romance didn't last either. I hear the band did alright though.

Oh WOW!
I have heard that The Beatles never had a good sound system for concerts, so they stopped live concerts. That did not slow their popularity.
Many years later a tribute slide show with canned music played at Kansas State University. I have so naive I thought I was going to a Beatles life show.

To be clear, I couldn't hear any music over the nonsensical screeching of thousands of tween and teen girls in bobbysocks. They never let up, not for the whole show.
The reason the band said they stopped touring wasn't sound system issues per se, it was the mob mentality of the crowd making it hard to get in and out of the venue - and the same incessant screaming all through the show; they simply couldn't hear each other. Paul has said the final straw was the day they had to take an armored car onto the field to get to the stage. On the way back to the hotel they decided to quit.
