The intermittent tailgate open message is a classic symptom of one or more cracked wires in the left hinge area. Check these wires carefully again, sometimes the insulation isn't even broken but the wires inside are so look for a flat or soft spot in the wire insulation.CThompson wrote: ↑24 Oct 2023, 07:33 I took a photo of the wires which seem to be in decent shape. (i thought i would be able to attach it but it wont let me) Possibly the wires are frayed within the wrapped part? Alternatively do you think a mechanic could disconnect the alarm system. I'm not bothered about the message i just want to be able to lock the car without the alarm going off
The tailgate open/closed signal (to the CEM) is determined by one wire going from the CEM through a microswitch in the rear latch, when the tailgate is closed the switch closes and the wire is grounded. What happens when the wiring becomes damaged in the left hinge is either the pink wire or one of the black wires can break and you get an intermittent connection to ground and the tailgate open message. In the attachment you'll see the 54/50 connector where wires pass through, this is the wiring harness connector for the tailgate wires. The P (pink) wire is the tailgate open/closed wire and it goes to the rear latch 3/78 and then through the microswitch within the latch and then to a glass breakage strip (7/137, may not be on all cars) on the rear window and then to a ground wire (SB black wire). Both the pink and black wires go through the 54/50 connector, which is the left hinge are wire harness so pay special attention to these wires when checking them. I think there's more than one black wire in the left hinge area since it's a ground wire for other things too.
