S70 t5 1998 Aftermarket central locking

Post by tersfilozof »

I'm curious if we can install aftermarket central locking module. My previous owner lost 1 key and remote fobs. Currently i have only 1 fobs. I dont want to give 250$ to original one. Car is 1000$ itself :)

From my limited knowledge a new central locking module is usually a stand alone system. Number 12 is what the new solenoid would have move up and down If you are able to some how attached it on and in the door. You'll then run the new wiring to activate the solenoids. Kind of like if you were to manually pull n push the door lock mechanism up and down.

Depending on Volvo's system however, I'm wondering if the alarm will go off if that lever goes up without a key in the door? I vaguely remember the alarm going off if it has been set and someone in the car pulls the lever up to get out of the car. I'm sure someone here with electronics back ground could chime in. It's probably more complicated than this :D.

There is this bit in VGLA:

Which can propably be one annoynment.
..but soon can be turned off

20eur from eBay used remote is propably most expensive investment if you have Android phone and ELM327 adapter to add remote to P80 Volvo as long correct remote and its working.

Its two phase project and all needs be correct (including ELM327 device has two versions out of china.. Cheapest works just in generic OBD commands and then version which works with all ELM327 V1.4b commands and App requires the later) remote working and car frequency to be same so same remote as now working one already.

You need VGLA PIN code which authorize you to Add Remote and other things (App can retrieve PIN for you).
https://xiaotec.fi/?lang=en&a=10

Adding remote happens VGLA module so in App Service >> Advanced >> VGLA >> Add Remote.. and follow the instructions.

Footnote some Wifi problems with on chinese Oppo phones at moment as they seems removed one API Android System call.

From a logic perspective, the system knows when it's lock or unlocked. Could the system be fooled into thinking the locks are open at all times? Then the aftermarket system can operate the locks? The alarm wouldn't operate but are you concerned about the alarm on a 25+yr old vehicle?

If it's a Bring A Trailer 25 year old car perhaps. In some parts of the world any car is a good car and subject to theft.

Just going a completely different direction.
Am I right that you still have a key and a fob?
And is that key chipped? In your part of the
world, I don't know which system you have.
In some countries, a '98 is a US MY '99.

I researched this for a 1999 NA model once. It was about $60 to get a RFID remote which would switch 12 volt to the Lo CK/ unlock toggle wire in the 2/76 lock control module with diode protection

I did not implement this.
