Hi all! Been a while since I've been on the forum, then again my trusty 2006 V50 has been a dream for the past 5 years. Car died on me yesterday, I'm a bit baffled so I figured I'd toss the symptoms out to see if anyone else has had this.
Car was at full operating temp, I had been driving it for about 30 minutes. Turned it off, went in to a shop, came out and she fired up fine but stumbled and died while I was backing out of my parking spot. After a few minutes of fiddling with things, unplugging/plugging back in the CEM connectors, she fired up and I made it a quarter mile before the same thing: V50 stumbled and shut off on me. After that, it would crank and crank but wouldn't fire up. Plugged in my OBD reader and there are no stored or temporary codes in there. Any ideas?
I'm going to look over the car after work, fuses, spark plugs, fuel pressure, etc etc. Let me know if you've had this happen to you or seen something similar. I've never seen a no start no code issue. Battery is holding voltage fine and it's cranking normally, so I don't believe it's a bat/alternator issue here.

I have the identical issue. I have an '07 V50 T5 AWD. Mine was not up to temp, was still cold and had been running for about 3 minutes. Got to a stop sign at the end of my street and it started misfiring. I shut the engine off, cycled the ignition and tried starting it again. It would fire for a second, then stall. It did this two or three times, then just cranked.
I have no codes. It will fire and run for a moment with starting fluid. But, I have good fuel pressure at the fuel rail, 50psi. There's power to the injectors, but it doesn't seem to be pulsing them, at least with my test light. I checked compression to see if the timing jumped, but I have 160psi. My scan tool verifies the fuel pressure reading, so the ECM knows there's pressure. Scan tool also shows RPM when cranking, so the crank sensor should be good. I checked resistance on the cam sensors, and while I don't know what they should specifically read, they're the same. I've tried disconnecting the battery for several minutes and reconnecting with no change. No signs of damage to the harness, or ground connections.
I'm at a loss trying to find what would inhibit firing the injectors. I'm starting to worry it might be an ECM issue. Maybe the injector drivers failed internally? Let me know if you find a solution. I'll post if I ever get anything figured out. Good luck!

The usual approach if there are no error codes is:
Air: check air filters (unlikely for them to just clogg completely if the car was running minutes before)
Fuel: Maybe a clogged fuel filter? Not really common on gas cars, but pretty often on diesels.
Compression: Also unlikely to just break in a parking lot. Did you engine have a lot of blowby gasses? (Exhaust leaving the engine with via the oil cap if open)
You could try to start it with a puff of brake cleaner in the air filter. If it fires right up, you know that ignition/spark is not a problem.

Just because you're trash, doesn't mean you can't do great things.

Well I was out of town for the last week, finally got back and worked on the car for a bit today. Fuse #74 (fuel pump control circuit) was burned, I replaced the fuse, and replaced the fuel pressure sensor, car fired up and ran fine for about 15 miles before dying again. Car wouldn't burn the fuse this time, just would run rough then stumble and die. Spit out a handful of generic codes P2177 (lean) P0170 (fuel trim) and P0090 (fuel pressure reg control).
It seems like a sensor/electronic issue, not a clogged filter or bad pump far as I can tell. The issue will feel like it corrects itself briefly before returning. I bought a tested/good fuel PEM as well as a new pump relay to install. If those don't fix the issue, I'll replace the fuel pump. Oddly enough I don't know where on earth to find the fuel filter to replace it, it's not in the passenger side spot in front of the rear wheel behind the plastic panel flap like it is on all the diagrams. I checked the driver's side for laughs and it wasn't there either.
I'll follow up once I throw some parts at the car to see what happens.

Finally got this issue sorted out. Short story: there are 2 versions of the fuel rail pressure sensor, the black sensor is for the naturally aspirated motor, and the grey sensor version is for the turbocharged motor. While both sensors fit the fuel rail, running the wrong sensor will cause low fuel pressure and intermittent stalling.
After my previous comment, I ended up replacing the fuel pump at the advice of my mechanic. I cut an access panel instead of dropping the tank, and used a Bosch fuel pump from FCP. While the car definitely ran a bit better, it would still stall out when restarting at operating temp. I was stumped and took it to my mechanic who was able to figure out that I had installed the incorrect black (NA) fuel pressure sensor on my turbocharged motor. While that symptom was oddly similar to my initial issues, my fuel pump was what was initially failing when the symptoms first arose. I bench tested my old fuel pump after going through all of this and it was definitely failing.
Hope this helps someone!

Was the fuel filter built into the pump?

Yes, my car is the emissions version that has no external fuel filter. That was another lesson I learned after buying a fuel filter and not being able to locate it under the car.

Oh my, emissions version sounds like the lifetime transmission fluids
