Mine's a 6 speed manual and 2004, so no CVT issues in sight, just a gearbox that's struggling to keep fluids inside :roll: Gonna have to be careful, it's not an M56, i cant get a spare for 200 bucks :lol:

Oooh, you guys got the H6 with a manual over there? That was never an option here in the states, unfortunately.

Yeah it got a quite rare manual variant on the Spec B 3.0, took me a while to find a decently priced one in the area !

V70 still jealous, blew off an intercooler hose on the o-nramp today, that was interesting :shock: Managed to just about roll to safety where i got it back where it belongs and drove very carefuly back home :lol:

On the assumption yours is a 98 T5, then does it have the engine oil cooling lines still fitted? The reason is that Robert DIY has suggested replacing the oil cooler thermostats with a blanking plate and doing away with the thermostat al together.

If you plan to continue using the oil cooler and the lines are being replaced the biggest pain is getting to the bolt at the front of the block which is at a slight angle.

The 2nd thing to ensure the oil thermostat holes do not have old oil burnt into the O' ring holes. Carefully scrape any old oil residue out or you are guaranteed to tear the new 'O' rings on fitting the pipes. Also make sure the retaining strip at the thermostat is flat or it allows the pipes to pull out slightly and leak.

I should add:

When fitting the oil cooler lines at the radiator ends, make sure you watch carefully which way around the metal cages are fitted or they will allow the pipes to leak or blow off. Zip-ties around the cages also help if they are being re-used.

Apologies for pulling this post out of the past, but I never saw the reply! Yes I am now just planning on deleting these lines, I like the results Robert had with his testing of this solution. Got my block off plate ready to go, now just waiting for the oil to get a little more miles on it as I don't like filtering used motor oil out and back in the engine, just feels wrong... :lol:

My plan for taking Val for an MOT in better weather never quite went to plan, but at least there was no salt on the roads this year which is a bonus. Storm Kathleen decided to arrive during the night so it was a very wet drive to the MOT station this morning with the temperature at only 2°C

The car had a straight pass with no advisories, then off to visit a mate and then over to East Kilbride to do a Volvo estate thing and fill the boot with freshly powder coated wheels. Back home and the car will need to sit outside until the underside dries off before I put it back in the garage

Some nice beading porn when the car was moved into the MOT station after sitting outside for an hour

Won't be any need for that. At rest it's above the oil level in the pan, so all that would be wasted is anything left in the cooler or lines which isn't part of the base capacity anyways. I was worried about that too until I tried it.

Thanks bmdubya1198, the weather's not getting any better and gale force winds forecast for tomorrow so hope it dries off enough to get her inside. In the mean time it's looking like she's going to spend a second night in 4 years outdoors.

Well look at the bright side, it could be snowing the heavy white kind like it is over here today and for the last couple of days. Forecast for more over the next 2 days before temperature rises back above the 0C mark. Now off in the wet slushy roads to run some errands. I'll leave the car outside as the boss needs to be run somewhere later so no point dragging all the crud into the garage twice!
