P80 audio system upgrade question

Post by SonicAdventure »

Hey all,

I have an 850 with a SC815 head unit. It seems like all of the speakers have some kind of issue, when I isolate (using balance and fade) the rear door speakers they seem blown, the fronts aren’t much better when individually isolated.

Anyone have a good parts list of replacement speakers for these cars, mainly that could fit without mods or carving up any of the existing mounts or grills? I am not looking for teenager-level bass response or anything crazy, just want basic quality sound.

Also, I have looked at a variety of interfaces that plug into the CD changer jacks in various Volvo SC head units, a common one being branded as “Yatour”. Anyone have luck adding one of these units with good results? I’m mainly interested in somehow adding an AUX in Jack so the phone media could be played through the speakers on long road trips. Thanks.

Yatour did do a Bluetooth unit the last time I looked into this, but last time I looked it was out of stock everywhere, so I don't even know if they are still around. I did find this on AliExpress though:

and

Then here is an install guide from a Volvo UK enthusiast website:

So no need for AUX in theory. Grom also do a unit at higher price. I also had one several years ago (now in a box) that gives AUX in and the old Apple Ipod connector. For Grom, look around as the price varies greatly.

In warm and dry areas the glue in the speaker cones gives out unfortunately. As to specific speakers, I can't give advice there as I've always have good used ones on the shelf should I need them. On the V/S70's the speakers can be removed from the mountings with a bit of work and then any speaker of similar form. This will allow you to leave the units looking standard and no need to modify the door panels. On 850's though, I am trying to remember the way the front speakers mount as I know they are different, but my memory fails me , sorry.

Neil.
