P80 guy looking at a P3

Post by 454cid »

I went to go look at a 2009 XC70 yesterday, and I've got a few questions.

Door handles, do they normally feel notchy and not smooth? After working the driver's side I checked the passenger side and it was about the same. I'm trying to figure out if they're breaking (or broken) or if they just feel that awful by design.

The key, I've never ever in my life shoved a whole key fob in the dash before as a key. Do they normal release slowly? I shut the car off, which was instant, but I struggled with the key removal. I tugged on it, twisted the silver piece on the end, looked for a release of some kind, and finally after 10 or 15 seconds it finally ejected. Am I missing something?

I didn't have much time to spend, so I was rushed. I'll likely be looking at it again. Anything in particular I should look for? It's an auction car, so I can't drive it, just pull it forward and then back it back into the parking spot.

After stopping the engine you push the key and then move out of the way in and it will eject for you.

Don't try to pull on it.

In fact only use one finger tip and wait until the key releases.

Good Luck

.
The key is a known issue. There are no mechanisms holding the key. It's just jammed.

Got a call from a friend last week that recently bought a 2010 XC70 T6. He is having random overheating issues. Was talking with my buddy that recently left working for a local Volvo dealer. He said the cause is one of many the P3's have. In this case it is the control module for the radiator fans that go flakey.

Add that to issues with poor quality plastics and electrical issues as well as lock mechanisms, you pay your money and take the chance. Way to many parts with FoMoCo on them.

If you buy an non-turbo, the engine is a gas pig and a slug. Buy post 2009 as in 2010 there was an update to the 3.2 motor.
