‘07 S80 3.2 — Cricket Sound from Engine Bay

Year and model as in title. Comprehensive 150K mile service done — yes, the expensive one.

Now at 167 K miles. After engine warms up we are getting a constant high-pitched whine from the engine bay. Not brake, wheel bearing or suspension related.

Thoughts?

From description, mechanic suspects cracked PCV diaphragm causing external vacuum leak.

Do you need to replace entire “valve” or can one just change the diaphragm?

I replaced the whole assembly for about $100 and I got the one marked FOMOCO

Getting the lid off without breaking it is challenging. A heat gun and a lot of patience may get it off.
