96 850 fender trim not secure

Today, I noticed that the trim piece, on the driver's side fender, between the door and wheel is not secure. I can move it around, but it's not yet falling off. I've taped it temporarily. How is it held on? Has some sort of clip broken? Hopefully it's separate from the trim piece itself. Is the back accessed by taking the inner fender liner out, or does the fender have to come off?

Here is the trim piece I'm talking about. You can see how I've taped it, to make sure it doesn't fly off on the highway.

I'm trying to recall what is behind there. I know the Volvo badge above can be removed to fit the side repeater turn signals, but the small trim nothing comes to mind. Were there any holes of any sort behind it? If not then it is double sided tape. I use one that sticks really well made by 3M.

Here's a bad photo I had saved of an S70 fender I pulled from the junkyard. I believe the trim piece is similar to an 850 but I could be wrong. There's round thing and two smaller dots.

I've replaced that trim piece before on my V70XC when I replaced the fender...but can't remember exactly how I did it. The photo refreshes my memory a little bit. IIRC, you pull the ends slightly away from the fender to detach the two small studs from the fender holes. Then you slide the whole trim piece towards the rear of the car, to unhook it from a clip. Probably best to use a trim tool to detach the two small studs, but I don't remember using any tools on mine. Might be completely different on an 850.

It didn't fully come off, so I don't know what's back there yet. I wanted to ask first, to hopefully prevent myself from breaking something. I may go ahead and poke at it with a trim stick and see what happens.

I think there is a metal rail fixed to the fender with the plastic riveta you see on the S70 fender. And then some white plastic clips hold the trim onto the metal rail. I could remember this setup fromna different car, but I'm quite sure it is kike that on the 850ies.
I'd personally try to use transparen shoegoo to keep the trim from moving. Try moving it as far as it will go, apply shoegoo, move back to where you want it to stay. That's how I did it on my winter 850.

That makes sense from the pictures of the clips that I've found after reviewing the link Neil provided.

I'd like to stay away from glue if I can. I still haven't had time to work on this, but what I'm thinking happened is that one of the clips broke in some manner, allowing for movement. The other side doesn't move at all.

I got the trim piece off today. Here is what I found.

I've already seen these clips after doing a little searching after looking at Neil's link. It should be just a matter of ordering and snapping together.

Hmm, I thought I'd get these aftermarket, but it looks like it's specialized enough that only FCP and IPD have them. I guess I'll go FCP. I need some windshield washer parts anyway, and I think I'll get a couple of oil fill gaskets since I have no idea where my "spare" one is.

Side note: I looked at a V50 today as a possible replacement for the S70 I used to hit a deer. I had high hopes, until I discovered a misfire on cylinder #5 that was constant. I suppose it could be ignition or fuel, but given that it was constant, I'm thinking valve. I could try the paper towel trick over the exhaust, but I'm not sure how accurate that is, in determining a burned valve.
