A/C compressor won't come on 2004 S60

Post by estewart »

2004 S60, A/C was blowing warm. Had a/c system recharged and mechanic couldn't get compressor to come on from dash controls but could control from scan tool and system operated correctly. Noticed dash shows temp as -22*f. Not a Volvo mechanic, referral to Euro shop for proper diagnosis. Could this be sensor? Thinks it's cold and won't kick in? Or thermostat issue? Thanks for any guidance.

THe dash temp sensor is in the passenger side mirror.
Take a look at the numbers on yours and compare.

Search for "AC clutch gap" and the free fix using zip ties etc.

If the compressor will kick on using the scan tool then it’s unlikely that shimming the compressor clutch will help.

yep,
the system reads the 2 temp sensors , the ambient air is sourced at the side mirror pass' side, and sent to the ecm and displayed on the dash. If its way off the ac will not cycle, the cooling fans also won't turn on because the ecm assumes its running colder than it is, it will probably cause a rich condition too.
