One important question before I do this:
Is there any risk of electrical/software issues when swapping around ECUs and immos?

Is it safe to start the engine with a possibly not compatible tune? (mine is still an automatic, donor ECU for manual; also different ECU numbers)
I'm affraid that something could go wrong with TCM when you install an ECU from a manual donor car into a car with auto transmission.

Codes stored in TCM will NOT reset untill read & clear with proper scan tool(Vol-FCR,dealership).
Disconnecting battery cables doesn't do the trick on TCM like on ECU.

That's good to know, thanks! I only have a basic OBDII reader that can't communicate with the TCM.

I'll just wait until the auto gearbox und TCM is officially ready to retire before testing out the combinations.

So I guess this post is done.

Thanks for all the help, great first contact with the MVS community!

Cheers

Because of that...i'm unable to read & clear ecu M4.4 codes.

All other modules in the car communicate ok except ECC since it still produce flash codes, because they don't go through immo2 box.
On 850....ECU should only see a "green light" from immo2 and key.
As long as replacement immo2 box and the mathching key have the same numbers like the old one...it should work.

S,v,c,xc70 from '97-'99 should be the same...but not sure.

For 850...i'm pretty sure that this should work and i'll try it soon.
UPDATE!
Changed immo2 box with it's matching chipped key and everything works fine.
So...EU market 850 with M4.4 and chipped key doesn't have coded ecu.

That said...you don't need to replace immo2 box,it's matching chipped key and ecu...just immo2 box and it's matching key.

I was right that ecu only needs "green light" for immo2 box.
Note that replacement immo2 box MUST have the same part numbers like old one.

Also...ecu swap between cars with chipped keys and cars without chipped keys is not possible because ecu from a car with chipped keys will seek for immo2 approval(green light) from immo2 box and it's chipped key.

Thanks so much for the testing and confirmation misha!

Now I’m assured that I can just swap out the M4.4 ECU from my automatic to the equivalent manual one (same MJ and engine, both with chipped keys) - as soon as I’ll come around to do the swap. I will report then.

Also have a M4.3 from a 1996 T-5 manual without chipped keys to test out, in case anyone needs comfirmation of that working in a 1998 M4.4 car with immobilizer.

Hope the 850 R clutch from Sachs will be avaiable again soon so the manual swap can happen.

Cheers
