On my 96 R the p/s fluid came out of the reservoir today, like it was common with the old radiator caps.
I might have overfilled it back in September after a track day where the fluid level seemed very low. I haven't done much driving since September due to various reasons.
Now I removed quite some fluid to have it where it should be.
I'm wondering if there is a problem that would cause the p/s system to add pressure. I have no noticeable leaks and everything works like it should.

Over filling would be a problem. I would monitor it and the system for a while to make sure no seal damage was done.
I can't recall now which power steering pump version it is that had an issue with an internal pipe coming off/loose causing issues.
Neil.

Thank you Neil, I remember there being a problem with some pumps. Does one of the long term members like @abscate remember the details? If the pump wad the problem, I could throw in a used pne I have in my stash.
Right now, my R reminds me of Neil's R. Every time I drive it, something breaks and becomes more annoying.

What?? My R is a PITA? Never, it never has any issues...............
Now my wife runs the car in the summer so I don't stress as much over it. Mind you it is due a new timing belt on time basis (10 years) although the pump and tensioner as well as the belt have only done 15,000km or so.
Neil.
