Post by CIK7 »

HELLO! I am looking for the topic that covers the complete steering rack replacement process. Even though I typed in 'steering rack' and was told '0 matches', the topic 'steering rack replacement questions' popped up. This is not what I am looking for. Please 'steer' me in the right direction. Are you staying well abscate?

CIK7,
We haven't heard from you in a while.
I saw Antlers on the weather map today. You likely got wet.

Maybe in the VRD? We will do some hunting for Antlers…

Our friend Firefox31 has a pretty good thread on current rack options for purchase, too.

Not technically difficult, the job just takes Tincture of Time and Patience. Careful with the fluid line nuts, and don't use an impact on the four rack nuts, that will spin the studs and they lose their grip on the splines in the rack base.
And as always, Cardone has become the URO of the rebuilt market.

Do you mean to say Cardone is no longer high quality? I found someone with 1 reman Cardone unit at a good price (clearance). I noticed there are some new Cardone units too. I didnt think companies would continue with the 'new' and 'afm' products for these old cars.

Good to be back! It is suppose to storm later I think. I just got back from Tulsa at 11:55am. Does the number 1155 with Volvo ring a bell for you?

On another note, I plan to fix up the Volvo to get it fully back on the road and sell the Honda. All new steering rack, steering pump, outer tie rods, all engine mounts, control arms, and ASB bushings are going in soon. The Volvo has everything going for it that the Honda does not except the speed performance. The Volvo can tow up to 1900LB/3500LB braked/unbraked, has lots of trunk room, has durable cloth upholstery for the dogs (I put 960 leather in the Honda), the ride is mostly smooth, and the manual trans is easy to use. The one thing the Honda has is speed, a 5.9 0-60 with its rare (but difficult) 6sp manual.

And just like clockwork, there is the thunder!

Yes, 3507923
Treat it to new bolts, 985111, they're torque-to-yield.
ipd has a kit that includes their poly inserts.

I wouldn't put Cardone anything on anything I own. I am not alone.
