S60 2.3 T5 Automatic Asin HP tolerance

Post by frostyzen »

Hello,

I'm looking at a 2.3 T5 (2004 s60) this month in Germany. It however has the Asin 50-55 automatic transmission. (presumably, im gonna check)

How reliable and how much torque/hp can this transmission handle? I'm looking to upgrade the intercooler and push past 300hp. Have had conflicting reports on whether the Asin autos take this well.

Anyone have any experience?

It's torque, I think it's limit is usually 330nm, but if you are gentle it might handle more. But you will have to never WOT at standstill.

At 300hp you would likely be nearing 400nm.

330nm? Thats literally what it pushes at stock already?

Are they really that weak? Not looking forward to finding a manual tranny and swapping.

Sorry I guess my info was a bit wrong, it has been a while since I was researching this, since the diesel engines came with 330-400nm factory at the time they were using AW55, it should handle the torque then.

And maybe up to 450nm

The block though can handle much more power so you will be gearbox limited.

Thats a relief, I was aiming for 300hp at the start and we'll see where the weak points arise and work from there.

My older 2000 R with a tune is supposedly pushing over 310bhp and 300 Nm. In the 5 speed auto in this car it was only rated to 320 bhp for safe operation.
