XC70 heat shield hardware

Post by BlackBart »

2004 XC70.
Muffler rattle made me think UH oh, but it's this heat shield near the rear muffler missing a hold-down hardware.

On the parts diagram, its got to be #12 here....

They don't make it clear what hardware goes there, but it's a threaded stud so I'm thinking it's #20 here - just a rubber/plastic threaded nut / washer bit. It could be nut #10 as well. Anyone know? Thanks -

It should be a 10mm solid nut with an integral washer, these are real common throughout the car and can be found in the wheel well splash guards fore and aft also. it won't be a plastic fastener. do you have and auto wreckers near you? That would be the best source. If you're not in a hurry I could mail you a couple, I've got a bunch in my random parts bin.

Hmmmm, I just read the parts description, looks like it may be a plastic fastener, I would substitute a metal nut and coat the threads in neversieze.

A big fake SS fender washer from Lowes will make up for any deterioration in the heat shield, too.

In most of the salt free world, a plated steel fender washer will work for many years.

No Volvo salvage near here. I’ll find nuts and washers.
Thanks everybody.
