sunroof wont move

Post by mensaguy »

I am the new owner of a 2010 S80 w/only 69k miles-owned by an old lady who garage-kept it, and it really-is "Like New". Everything is perfect on it, except for the sun/moonroof. It did open and close flawlessly, but all of a sudden it is 'stuck" in the vent position (roof tilted upwards in the back area).
Pushing on the switch forward has the motor running, but it sounds like it is clicking or stripping, but the motor does run. Have tried pushing/pulling on the glass while it runs with switch in various positions but no luck. Any other position is nothing-no click, hum or sound as jammed up.

I have read most all the related threads, taken loose the battery, pressed and held the switch , etc with no luck.

What is the real fix for this problem??

Don't you want to press "down" on the button? I don't remember how it was on my dad's S80, but on my 850 up means vent when in neutral position (closed). From vent, down means to go back to neutral position (closed). Further down press means open.

At my age, have a problem with what's up and down!
When i push the button Forward, the motor runs, when I push it UP the motor runs.
Pulling it Down of pushing it back has no effect.
The glass sun/moon roof stays in the tilted position with the rear sticking up, and the front being level with the surface of the roof. Doesn't appear to be jammed, just something is not causing it to reverse.

This is where I'd start taking the switch out of the dashboard and cleaning it, cleaning relay contacts and re-seating it, poking around the sunroof track to see what I could see... "noodling around." Trying to understand how the sunroof moves in its track and how it lifts into the vent position, etc. Is there debris on the track? Or in the lifting mechanism? Those are the questions I'd start with.

I don't know anything about S80 sunroofs, so I can't help you with specifics...
