SRS reset 2000 S70 GLT SE P80

Post by jmartin919 »

I've been troubleshooting my SRS malfunction lately and after all my efforts was prepared to take it to the dealer next Tuesday. One last try. To cut to the chase I was able to clear the codes and reset the light (plus an added bonus). The trick was (after fixing the defect, in my case the left side impact sensor - no longer availavle new) to turn the ignition to position 2 on and off 10 times (comfortable speed, no pausing between cycles - don't know if that mattered?) and the the code will clear with the scanner (Youcanic)! But my SRS light did not go out. Scanned for codes and got "driver seat belt tensioner". Did the old 2 ohm resistor across the plug trick, turned the key 10 times, cleared the code and out went the SRS light! What is this magic? My next act (the bonus) was to remove the airbag module that I just got working (purchsed off eBay) and install my old module that I was told had a hardware problem that was uneconomical to fix (Myairbag). SRS light came on, read the codes, "passenger airbag", did the key thing, cleared the code, SRS light out! Leaves me with many questions..

That's one of my questions - is this model specific, year specific, scanner specific? Hoping other people will try this and come back with their results. If you're asking did I take a video the answer is no. Is there a part that needs clarification by a video? Basicly it's fix the issue, turn the key 10 times, clear the code with the scanner. As far as the 10 key cycles that was just me taking a wild guess out of pure frustration and wanting to try something - maybe fewer turns would work?. The Youcanic has a message pop up that says if you can't clear the code then start the engine, rev to 1500 rpm, engine off, start again and idle 20 seconds then try to clear the code again (doesn't say turn the engine off or not). Of course that never worked for me. Youcanic is pricey. I'm still in the 30 day free return window and have a iCarsoft CR Pro at less than half the price that I'm comparing it to (as well as Alexi's 850OBDII app that keeps getting better). The Youcanic is definitely nicer, easier to use with the touchscreen and bluetooth but I don't do enough to justify it I don't think - would just be a nice gift to me. I'm new to the scanner thing so I don't have a good feel as to how to really compare the capabilities of the two. I do know the Youcanic will activate different components on command and I don't see that on the iCarsoft. Also the iCarsoft says my car has an AW42 AWD trans and won't let me change it.
