I noticed that the turbo coolant hose (6842190) I used to be able to get for about $10 is now running in the $50 to $60 range. Is there any durable alternative to OEM?

Very unfortunate highway robbery. I should have ordered one for my blue wagon since I like going OEM for hoses like that, but the car came with a set of IPD silicone hoses for that hose as well as the one that runs over the heat shield. Looks like the two hoses together cost $20, though silicone in that oil-heavy area under the turbo might be asking for trouble.

I would bite the bullet on that OE one Jreed. Rubber is a place where the cost cutting comes back to boil you over.

Volvo rubber seems to last 20 years plus and those turbo hoses are getting baked

I mentioned recently that the 3-4" long turbo outlet to metal charge pipe at the back of the P80 engine is listed for $150??!

A lot of Volvo prices have gone completely off the rails to the point of stupidity. I've already told my local dealerships I can't afford to by from them at MSRP + 30%!

Here's a weirdness I just came across. A basic XC70 windshield washer pump.

First stop FCP. Credit to them, they usually tell you a bit about parts manufacturers and sources. I would usually go Blue Box Volvo if I can afford it or especially in a critical system or hard-to-reach location. Here's what I've found and it's a bit frustrating:

VEMO $18 (cheap!) Italy
Pro Parts Sweden (STAY AWAY!) $15 Taiwan
Blue Box Volvo $90 (really?) China.....(REALLY?)

Yep, I agree... it's getting into the stratosphere for some of these older Volvo parts.

Bought a reman steering rack from Detroit axle due to a leak from one of the external lines that are NLA, and they sent this new aftermarket one that they also sell.

They said they can't guarantee a replacement with an OEM rebuilt unit, it might be rebuilt from aftermarket cores they received. Not sure we want to do the work to replace this just to have it fail in a year or two, but the leak is pretty bad and I think introducing air into the system causing a constant groaning sound.
Don't know who we'd buy from, Detroit axle had free core return labels and a lifetime warranty, but it's a lot of work to go through if it fails soon.

I did a bunch of p80 racks during Covid and both Detroit and United racks have had no issues.

Still have yet to see how it holds up in the long run, but no immediate problems with the Detroit axle rack. The rack that came out was a rebuilt SMI rack, and belched fluid from both ends when I took the boots off.
