This is only a DIY job if you own a garage and don't need the car for however long it takes. You must remove the two rear sub frame bolt in order to lower the frame and remove the bolts holding the rack in place. And if you're gonna do it then you may consider checking the sway bar and sub frame bushing to see if you want to replace that. Hell I'd even change the engine mounts if you never did it or have no history of it.

While I have a loose rack I don't have leaks so I don't need to change it, but I was quoted a little over $2k USD for the job and I have the more expensive rack with a sensor in it.

Best to buy the sub frame bolts along with the rack since it's suppose to be a one use bolt, but I'm sure most mechanics just reuse the old ones.

driving my 2001 s60 without PS for years now. Was leaking too much at the rack and that was a job i wasnt going to attempt and couldnt justify the cost at a shop. After burning out a couple pumps obviously i then looped the out pump hose back into the in to keep pump lubed and rack out of the whole thing. No PS makes it rough parking but when driving hasnt been any issue, if you have a wife it prob would be
