New User - Hello - And C30 questions - badges, trim, and dent removal

Post by VicISverige »

Hej Guys,

I don't know very much about cars and mechanics, I'm here to learn. I'd like to fix up my little Volvo C30 a little bit.

My first question is, where can I go to get decals? I'd like to replace some of the badges that look old and worn and crappy. Is there a volvo website or something where I can get these things?

Second, this thing has gone missing somehow. I'm not sure what it's called. So same question for that ... where would I get a new one? And how would I match the colour? Can I but "volvo touch up paint" or something?

Last question - for now - there's a dent in the door that doesn't seem to want to come out when I try and pull it out with a plunger. Which is very annoying - it's so close. It pulls out under pressure from the plunger but then just pops back in when I release it. Any tips there? I suspect I may have to remove the inner door lining and push it out as opposed to pull it out. How hard is it to remove the inner door lining on a C30? Where would I go to find out how to do this?

Thanks!

Welcome to MVS.

I'm having trouble finding that trim piece for the washer. I tried "washer cap", "headlight washer" etc. Here's one of my failed searches https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... sher%20cap

If you're not able to find the part number online, I suggest calling the Volvo dealer near you and ask for parts department (but in Swedish ). Then explain what part it is.

For the dent, yes it sounds like you'll need to remove the door card, and maybe some linkages inside it, to properly push it out. Maybe (maybe) use a heat gun on the inside of the door to avoid cracking the paint. Do some research on this, don't just do it. If you do it, use a light touch on heating the metal.

Badges you might find on eBay, and they'll be 3rd party/low quality, or again, buy from the dealer for high quality.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

For some reason Volvo North America calls it a Jack plug:

https://www.volvocarstorontoparts.ca/p/ ... 76479.html

RHS is part #: 39876479
LHS is part #: 39876478

The parts come ready to paint. A good autobody show should be able to make up a spray can of paint. You will also need clear coat paint on the top. If you are not too fussy, you might be able to get a small touch up can of paint you can brush on. Volvo will be able to sell you a touch up paint container, but they are really small. It does normally come as a kit of the paint and clear in 2 containers with small brushes.

As your car is now 14 years old, the paint will have faded. Taking your car to a auto paint supplier, if they are good, they should be able to scan your paint and match it better.

As for the door dent, that may not be simple depending where it is damaged. If it is near the middle, depending on how hard it was hit, it may have bent the inner door protection bar which the panel is likely attached to. Removing the inner panel may help you figure that out.
If the dent is higher or lower than the middle, a paintless dent repair person may be able to repair it.

Emblems are stupid expensive for what they are:
