98 S70 -- fan on when parked?
I just got my car out of the shop (2nd time) and originally was having the upper radiator hose blow off. They replaced the radiator because there's a flange that had eroded. But I'm taking it back because I still don't hear the fan kicking on. They replaced the thermostat and ect sensor and I know the fan works and has new relay module. My question is -- I had also wanted them to look at why the fan doesn't turn on (like it originally did years ago). when the engine is hot and the car is parked. I just did some driving and after parking the thermostat housing read 221F -- yet hadn't heard the fan on my trip or parked. SHOULD the fan come on when parked? What is the issue if it doesn't? -- thanks

Did you have any software updates over the years? Maybe the feature was turned off.
Does your external temp sensor for the engine work? I think the 98 has 2 front temp sensors. One for the cabin temp readout and second one for the engine. That one is tucked up under the front on the LHS of the grill (standing in front of the car) or attached to the air guide under the car.

Thanks Neil. I didn't realize there were sensors up front. Nope -- no software update I'm aware of. THANKS. I'll look for that engine temp sensor and just go ahead and replace it if it isn't a bear.

If you have two sensors just swap them. Very easy to do.

Thanks for clarifying. I was not clear earlier that there are 2 sensors like you mention. They are the same. The other one is for the dash readout and they are the same sensors.

I came across something interesting in an originL Volvo service manual the other day:
The fan may come on any time, includi g 10 minutes after shutting the engine off.
My 94 T5 and my 95 10V does/did it occasionally after shutting off the engine, my 96 R never does that.
