I purchased a 2013 volvo xc60 3.2 fwd and would like to know what transmission fluid temperature tool you suggest to use when changing the transmission fluid.

I use the 'iCarsoft Volvo/SAAB OBD-II multi systems Scanner Tool'. But there might be some cheaper scanners that would report the transmission fluid temp.

I hear of some using a laser temp gun and pointing it on the bottom of the transmission.

I always wondered what is the difference of fluid amount between the normal air temp versus at the 50/60 Celcius degree. I would guess it is not much! Remember that it is better a little too much ATF than a little not enough.

Using a thermal gun is the cheapest option. Just did a fluid swap on a 2013 XC60 T6 after swapping the trans with my former Volvo mechanic buddy. I have an Autel 802 and we were able to use that even though for some reason it only list up to 2012 for some reason.

If you have taken the car for a run to get the trans oil up to temperature as advised, the casing will be close to the temperature at rest.

Vida also does fluid temps through the Communication tab then you go to Parameters on the TCM.
