I used to own 1998 S70, 1998 V70...those P80 runs in solid pulley and some of those cars go to 300K miles...

What I am getting at is: the free-wheeling pulley lifespan is probably 50K-60K miles from my web reading...this happens bc the grease dries out and you have no way to grease it during its lifespan.

So....many of us are probably driving around with seized pulley without knowing...

What some ppl described of shredded serp belt is from seized bearing (inside the alternator) and not from seized pulley free-wheeling mechanism.

Also,

If you look at FCP Euro website for 2004 S60, these are options, go figure...

- 120A...AL0756...solid pulley
- 140A...AL0820...free-wheeling pulley
- 160A...AL0873...free-wheeling pulley

Are these available for 3.9 liter cummins diesels with AC Delco alternators? The belts bounce around and of course the alternator squeals at shut down.. These make so much sense.

George,

I don't have any experience working on Cummins Diesels.

If I were you I would search the forum to see if newer design incorporate the overdrive pulley and then look to see if you can upgrade.

I will look around and post more information if I can find it.

Good luck

Paul
