2004 Volvo XC70 Door Actuators Replacement?

Post by TroutJim »

Volvo 2004 XC70 replacing front / rear passenger door lock actuators? Just picked up our 11th Volvo. This one for our soon to be 16-year old grandson. Both locks will make a buzzing / grinding noise when trying to lock or unlock with remote. And not working. I am presuming that plastic gears inside are stripped.

Some questions. Do I have to replace whole actuator? Or are there gears available? If I get a used actuator, and it does not work, can I use it’s gears to repair original? Any other suggestions?

The door lock actuators cover pieces are molded together so they aren't serviceable and will need to be replaced. I've cut one open and it might be possible to glue it back together if you had replacement parts from another working one but it would be a real challenge. I've replaced 3 in my car over the years, mostly due to one of the switches having a problem and one had a broken linkage lever.

Great information. Thank you. It looks like there may be some options for when I order replacement actuators. Power Child Safety and Deadlock. Do you know if the connectors on the actuators is common on the options (realizing that it would just have more or less wires) or is it a different connector type for each option?

Used actuator on eBay is about $50-$60.

New is about $180.
I personally would buy new.

However, another option is do nothing. The grandson can learn how to lock/unlock car manually.

Replacing the entire drivetrain is usually the best solution as the internal gears are not easily replaced.
