Suddenly one morning this winter i noticed the transmission slipping before engaging in drive or reverse. I drove the car to work, and in between gear shifting the engine would rev up before the the transmission engaging with a thump. There was also a big thump when shifting from park to drive when parked.
I got halfway home from work before the transmission gave up on me, only slipping and wont engage the gears. Drive or reverse dosent matter, the engine revs up but the car is not going anywhere. Transmission service required message in the dashboard.
After what i've read the first symptoms could indicate a bad valve body. Changing the valve body with solenoids seems like an achieveble job, but would it be enough? Its a secondary beater car so dont want to put alot of money in to it.
Is the best option a used transmission from a parted out xc70, or can a new valve body do the trick?
