96 Volvo 850 AWD: Key Fob compatibility?

Post by Randomnamegenerator »

Hello there,

I am trying to setup keyless entry into my 850.

The car came already came with a brown 210-211 relay so I just needed to track down a fob...which I have but still not having any joy.
Pictures with both should hopefully be attached. The part number 9442981 appears to be the correct fob for 850.

I have attempted to program the fob as per the manual( ignition 0 to 2, 5 times in 10 ,seconds keep it on at the 5th turn etc) but not getting anything, have replaced the batteries.

Should the fob make a peep or any noise when the buttons a pressed?

Can anyone telle the significance of the numbers on the back of the FOB and or the 210-211 module itself? If I definitely have the right fob for the right module I will try and track down a RF scanner.

Thanks in advance

Do yourself a favor and don't use the FOB on a 96 upwards 850. They work most of the time, but if you have an immo coupled to it, you will be stranded as soon as the Fob decides not to work.

Volvo uses different fobs and receivers
in a number of worldwide markets. What
affects Volvo fobs in Europe may not
apply to cars in the US.

I am not familiar of failure rate as i have had one now some years.. though personally i love at winter specially if handle is frozen just use the remote.

There is piezo speaker on this "newer/late model" 850 remote on the plastics which makes little bird tsirp sound when you press button so you know you have battery and it works as example.

I got now V70 99 remote too and it has very bad battery holder which why i belief many of them stops working specially with that battery holder plastic tabs broken like mine does (super tiny "wings" gets broken which you easily miss.. which would hold battery in place.. the plastic back cover doesnt push battery in place at all there is a gap which so if battery is loose it wont make contact) i had make some hacking around so that battery stays in place for sure and remote works again.

Thanks for the replies.

The car does not have an immobiliser or alarm, just the 210/211 module.

I have cracked open the fob and there doesn't appear to be any bad tracks or connection points.

Will give it a clean with rubbing alcohol and see how we go😅
