The IPD site offers two different sets of gaskets, depending on engine serial number. I haven't crawled under the car yet to look at the embossed number, but there's a ratty plastic sticker that's peeling off the plastic timing cover. That sticker has 3 numbers. The numbers on the sticker are:
6901007 (I think this is Volvo engine part number?)
and
3369342 (Is this the engine Serial number????)
and
B5254T2 (I think this is 5cyl engine code?)
Is the second # the engine serial?
The sticker is really ratty. See https://photos.app.goo.gl/8CdqPzayAipfVuVt7 Is there a way to check if the number I read off the sticker (3369342) matches the VIN YV1SZ 59H2 4116 0718 ?
RESOLVED - the IPD instructions were correct - see their photo below. https://www.ipdusa.com/Articles/518/How-Do-I-Find-My-Engine-Serial-Number-Or-Engine-Family-FWD-AWD-Models

To get the number I had to remove upper anti-sway bar, timing cover, and turbo heat shield. Also had to remove 20 yrs of oil mist/sludge and illuminate the stamping with a narrow-beam flashlight - the number is behind some obstructions in the near field of view.
Here's a set of photos illustrating how I got this to work. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZdoHWBLNfqMT6aGk8
